FAQs
What is the difference between a Barcode and a QR Code?
A Barcode (linear or 1D) uses vertical lines of varying width to encode data, typically product identifiers (like UPC/EAN). A QR Code (Quick Response code, or 2D) uses a square pattern of black and white squares and can store significantly more complex information, including URLs, email addresses, and large amounts of text.
Do I need a unique barcode number?
If you are selling products in a retail environment (online or physical stores), yes, you typically need a unique number, such as a Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), which is assigned by standards organizations like GS1. For internal inventory, you can use custom SKUs or Code 128 barcodes.
How big should my barcode be?
Barcode standards specify minimum and maximum sizes, but generally, a barcode needs to be large enough for a scanner to read reliably. Our generator's settings allow you to adjust the height and width, and a good rule of thumb is to maintain high contrast (black bars on a white background) and ensure the bars are not too thin by using the bar width setting.
Can I create QR codes for business use?
IP-based geolocation is an approximation. It often shows the location of your ISP’s nearest node or data center, which may be in a nearby city rather than your exact address.
Can I use a barcode scanner app on my phone?
Yes, for many 1D and especially 2D barcodes (like QR codes). However, for commercial inventory or retail checkout, a dedicated, calibrated laser or imager scanner is recommended for reliability and speed.
Is there a limit to the number of Barcodes I can generate?
No. You can generate as many barcodes as you need for free.
